good news
I just talked to my friend in Olympia, WA, and it sounds like we might get a place together when I move out. I'm so excited, I can't explain. He's someone I've known for years because he was in my brother's class in middle school here. I was always fascinated by him for some reason. But he moved away for college and to experience life. Anyway, we talked for a few hours and I feel like a great weight has been lifted now that I know he is excited for me to come out and stay with him. I'm too happy to sleep.

I've been collecting the loose feathers from my three parakeets for a while now. I find them when I clean their cages and put them in a little bag. I think it's interesting how some of them are identical because when one feather falls out, another one replaces it.

Top row: Four belly feathers, the rest are wing feathers except the long, blue one, which is a tail feather.
Bottom row: Three wing feathers, two tail feathers, three wing feathers.

Five tail feathers and six wing feathers.

Hi! Sorry I haven't commented or posted in a while. I don't have internet access at work anymore. Poo. Those feathers are beautiful, first of all! Are you going to make something with them?
congrats on the move! I hear olympia is great- I don't know exactly where it is, though. My friend lives in Oak Harbor, WA. She's an army brat, so it's pretty temporary, unfortunately. I wish it rained that much here! All the best, Kara

I'm so bad at maintaining a journal! My life is pretty boring, haha. I think it would be cool to make a little head-dress out of the feathers, but it probably would look funny because they're all different lengths. I'm not completely sure where Oly is either but it's like half an hour from Seattle, or something, haha. I was an Army brat too, but my dad got out when I was 10, luckily.

by the way, thanks for the fascinating bit of information- i had no idea that an identical feather replaces the one that has fallen out. :)

Oh! What a wonderful feather collection. I had about this amount of seagull feathers (of course not nearly as lovely as parakeet feathers) after my trip home to visit my family on the coast. I sent them away in care packages to penpals.

Thank you! Aren't feathers fun to collect? I've been on the lookout for seagull, blackbird, and bluejay feathers every since I moved to the Northwest because the birds are different here than in Illinois! They must be very nice to receive in the mail :)

Oh, a Bluejay feather would be lovely. Actually, I would love, LOVE to find a Cardinal feather! Could you imagine what a lucky find it would be - a bright, red feather?!
